In every human soul there dwells
a candle burning out of sight.
No matter what the outside shows,
within there glows a hidden light.
Fragments of Christ
are there to find
Treasure there is, for those who seek.
Riches in every human heart;
the lost, the lonely and the weak.
Touching our lives
along the way
are people rich, or poor, or strong.
many and varied are their tunes
Some may be right; some maybe wrong
Seeking the flame
in those we meet;
finding the Christ along the way;
hearts of the suffering, the heart
of Christ, our strength from day to day.
God threads His
treasures through our lives;
fragments of Christ in those we meet,
glowing in every human soul,
that we might lay them at his feet.

The Burnished
Land
O God, our Father,
by whose hand
was formed this ancient, burnished land,
renew in us, your holy fire;
inflame our souls with Christ-desire.
Beloved country,
wild and free,
of mountain range, and jewelled sea;
a land of flood, and fire, and plain;
of shining sun; refreshing rain.
By flame and fire
the land is purged;
in flood and rain it is submerged.
Yet, from the fire new life is born,
and after tempest, comes the dawn.
So may we, too, by
sorrow's pain
be cleansed, renewed, restored again.
O Holy Spirit, fire divine,
breathe on us now, our souls refine.
